Report of the Auditor-General No. 5 of 2023-24: Access to oral health services

The objective of this audit was to assess whether access to public oral health services, including early intervention and prevention, was efficient and effective.

This audit assessed whether Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) had arrangements in place that efficiently and effectively facilitated access to public oral health services. The focus on access was broader than waiting for treatment, it also included community education on good oral health and access to preventative care.

This audit reviewed arrangements in place to facilitate access to oral health services and examined trends in oral health data since 2013-14.

Whilst OHST cooperated with the private sector in providing dental care for some clients, the audit did not assess access to private dental services, nor did it test clinical decision-making.
